Habitat for Humanity Montgomery County Tennessee Aging in Place program serves citizens of Montgomery County, over the age of 62. The program’s goal is to help enable people to age safely in their homes.  

Aging in Place Program

Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, Tennessee offers the Aging in Place program for residents who are 62 years or older.

This program helps seniors make their homes safer and easier to live in, so they can stay in their homes as they age.

Please note:

  • This is not an emergency repair service.

  • We provide important home repairs at no cost to qualifying homeowners.

  • Repairs depend on available funding.

Examples of Services We Provide

  • New roofs or roof repair

  • New HVAC systems or HVAC repair

  • Plumbing repairs

  • Electrical repairs

  • Appliance repair or replacement

  • ADA accommodations (ramps, grab bars, etc.)

  • Weatherization improvements (insulation, sealing, etc.)

  • Other home safety and accessibility needs as identified

Services We Do Not Provide

  • Mold remediation

  • Asbestos abatement

  • Foundation repair

  • Work on manufactured or modular homes

  • Cosmetic or beautification work (painting, landscaping, etc.)

  • Lead paint removal

Aging in Place Process

  • Phone line opens for applicants on the set date and time.

  • Applicants leave their name, phone number, and address.

  • Calls are returned in the order received.

  • Staff confirm initial eligibility (age, home type, location).

  • Applicant provides required documents:

    • Proof of homeownership in Montgomery County, TN

    • Photo ID and proof of age (62+)

    • Proof that property taxes and mortgage are current

    • Verification of income for all household members

    • Documentation to show no liens on the property

  • Background and sex offender check conducted.

  • Habitat staff schedule a home inspection.

  • Critical safety, accessibility, and livability issues are identified.

  • Repairs are prioritized based on health, safety, and independence needs.

  • Habitat matches available funding to the most critical needs.

  • Homeowners do not choose contractors; Habitat assigns qualified, approved contractors.

  • Contractors are briefed on professionalism, safety, and homeowner interaction expectations (per Contractor Agreement).

  • Contractors complete agreed-upon repairs and modifications.

  • Work must comply with safety and quality standards.

  • Contractors are responsible for cleanup, communication, and maintaining professionalism.

  • After work is completed, Habitat staff perform a final inspection.

  • Homeowner reviews the work and provides sign-off.

  • Any corrections or adjustments are made before project closure.

  • Homeowner receives confirmation of project completion.

  • Habitat documents project outcomes for reporting and funding purposes.

  • Homeowner continues living safely and independently in their home.

Applicant Qualifications

To qualify, you must:

  • Own and live in your home full-time

    • Proof of ownership required

    • Apartments, condos, mobile homes, and manufactured homes do not qualify

  • Be age 62 or older

  • Live in Montgomery County, Tennessee

  • Be current on property taxes (no past-due city/county taxes)

  • Be current on your mortgage or have no mortgage at all

  • Have no outstanding liens on your home

  • Meet income guidelines

  • Provide documentation for yourself and everyone living in the home
