The countdown is on! Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, TN will open applications for our next round of new Habitat homeowner opportunities in less than 75 days. If you’ve been dreaming of a safe, stable, and affordable home for your family, now is the perfect time to prepare.
Becoming a Habitat homeowner is a life-changing journey—and the earlier you start gathering what you’ll need, the smoother the application process will be.
Who Qualifies for the Program?
To qualify for Habitat home ownership, applicants must meet three core requirements:
1. Demonstrated Need for Housing
You may qualify if you are:

Living in overcrowded conditions

Living in unsafe or substandard housing

Paying more than 30% of income toward rent

Unable to obtain a traditional mortgage
2. Ability to Pay an Affordable Mortgage
Applicants must show:

Steady, reliable income

Willingness to budget and manage household finances

Ability to make monthly mortgage payments (Habitat homes are not free)
3. Willingness to Partner
Partner families commit to:

Sweat equity hours (working on their home, other Habitat homes, or volunteering)
