First—thank you for applying to Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, TN. Submitting an application is a big step, and we want you to feel confident about what comes next.
1) Was your application truly submitted ?
Your application is not considered submitted until you complete it all the way through and see the confirmation screen (the smiley face) if you did not see the smiley face we did not receive your application
2) Don’t forget the Background Check Authorization
To be considered, you must submit both:
-
The Homeownership Application, and
-
The Background Check Authorization
If either one is missing, your application cannot move forward.
3) Submit your supporting documents (this is required)
After you submit your application, you will receive an email listing the required supporting documents. Your application will not be reviewed for qualification until those documents are received. These must be received no later than Friday, February 20th at 5:00pm. Unfortunately in order to remain fair to all applicants no late documents will be accepted.
You can submit documents in one of these ways:

Current deadline: Friday, February 20, 2026 at 5:00 PM
6) Please do not call or visit to check your status
We know it’s hard to wait, but checking application status by phone or in person slows the process down for everyone. If you need to reach out please email us- with your name as the subject line- to info@habitatmctn.org
All updates will come by:
-
Email, and
-
USPS mail
7) Habitat is a hand up, not a handout
Habitat for Humanity is a partnership. We help qualified families achieve affordable homeownership through a hand up—not a handout.
Families selected to partner with Habitat should be prepared to:
-
Complete 250 hours of sweat equity per adult
-
Attend financial education and homeownership readiness classes
-
Partner fully through the build process
-
Advocate for Habitat and its mission in the community
8) Important expectations about timing and move-in
Habitat does not have ready-made homes available to move into immediately. Homes are built through planning, funding, and volunteer and contractor partnerships.
Typical program timeline: 18–24 months from start to finish.
