Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, TN is proud to highlight the success of its new volunteer program, the Black Cap Crew, launched early 2025, to recognize long-term ReStore volunteers who consistently show up and serve with dedication.
The Black Cap Crew was created for volunteers who may not serve on a board or committee but contribute their time each week to support the Clarksville ReStore. Members select the days and hours they prefer and play an essential role in donation processing, customer service, organization, cleaning, and supporting Habitat and ReStore operations. The ReStore plays a significant role in Habitat’s mission by reselling donated household goods in our community to help fund affordable housing efforts in Montgomery County.

This year alone, more than 13 Black Cap Crew members have contributed over 800 hours of service. Four members have already earned their Black Caps by serving more than 100 hours each, marking a meaningful milestone in the program’s first year.
“I wanted to create something special for the volunteers who show up quietly and consistently, even though they aren’t on a committee or board. They deserve to be seen and celebrated. This program gives them their shine. I’m grateful for every single one of them — they’ve truly become family,” said Asante’ Zepeda, Volunteer and Family Services Coordinator.
The program celebrates volunteers through milestone rewards such as Habitat volunteer shirts, Black ReStore caps, newsletter spotlights, and special appreciation events. Habitat looks forward to recognizing even more Black Cap Crew achievements as the program continues to grow and welcomes additional community members who want to make a difference.
