CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (June 2021) – Legends Bank joined Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County to break ground on a new home for a qualified local family on June 29, 2021.
‘The House that Legends Built’ will be the first local Habitat built sponsored entirely by a community bank. In addition to providing financial support, Legends team members will pitch in alongside volunteers to complete work on the house, which will be built by David Wyles Construction (Gabe and Erica Ramos).
Legends employees Aminah Eyiowuawi and Amelia Magette serve on the Board of Directors for Habitat and have spent countless hours volunteering with families in the program. They provide mentorship, financial education, and more for families working toward the dream of homeownership.
“These kinds of projects are important to us,” Legends Bank CEO and President Tommy Bates said at the groundbreaking. “Even though we’re in the business of making money, we’re also in the business of giving back. That’s just as important.”
Legends Bank also contributed to Habitat in the fall of 2020 with a hugely successful clay shoot fundraiser that brought in thousands of dollars to go toward the cost of the home.
Maria Padro Santana, Bartolo Figuero, and their daughter Alondra will move into the Richardson Street home when it is complete. This will be the fifth home built on this street.
Santana told Lee Erwin of Clarksvillenow.com that she was grateful to God for her new home. “In my country I couldn’t make it, and I came to this country and I made it, thanks to my Lord, because he was there with me, and my husband was there with me, so I’m thankful for that,” she said.
