Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County welcomes three new board members

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (November 25, 2019) – Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, Tennessee (HFHMCTN) has elected three new members to the affiliate’s Board of Directors. Joining the board are Juanita Charles, Barb Petrik, and Blayne Clements.

“We have five families going through our program right now and these new board members are critical to their success,” Executive Director Rob Selkow said of the new additions. “Juanita, Barb, and Blayne all have unique skills to help strengthen our new Habitat partner-families.”

The new members of the Board of Directors assumed their official duties this month.

JUANITA CHARLES

Originally from Savannah, GA, Juanita made Clarksville her home upon being stationed at Fort Campbell in 2005. Juanita is a veteran, wife of a veteran, and the mother of three daughters.

Juanita has a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services Management and currently serves as the Chair of the Human Relations Commission for the City of Clarksville.  She is also the Executive Director of Clarksville Summit, Executive Director of Manifest Magic, a Political Coordinator for the Realtor Party, Vice-Chair of Governmental Affairs with the Clarksville Association of Realtors (CAR), recently elected to the Board of Directors of CAR, Board of CECA, and an overall community advocate.

“I was excited to join the board of Habitat for Humanity and honored to even be asked. My day job is as a real estate agent, so I know better than most that there is a need for nice, decent housing that is also affordable,” Charles said. “Habitat for Humanity fills that paramount need in our community. I’m glad to be a part of the amazing mission and advance the work that was done by our predecessors.”

BARB PETRIK

Barb and her husband, Greg, originally moved to the Clarksville area in 1989, where they lived for more than 20 years with their two children, Nicole and Steven. They eventually moved back to the area in 2014.

Barb earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Austin Peay State University (APSU) and currently works at CDE Lightband as an accounting assistant. She has dedicated herself to volunteer work through Loaves and Fishes, Room in the Inn, Manna Café Ministries, and Habitat for Humanity.

“I feel blessed to have the opportunity to serve on the board and to continue to give back to my community.  I look forward to working with all the board members, all the volunteers, and especially the families who are working for a new home!” Petrik said.

BLAYNE CLEMENTS

Blayne has been a resident of Clarksville for more than 40 years.  In April 2016, he returned to his alma mater and joined the APSU team as Chief Audit Officer.

For the past 10 years, he has served on the Board and as Treasurer for the Friends of Dunbar Cave. He recently began volunteering for Habitat for Humanity.

“I have found the experience deeply humbling and rewarding.  Knowing I can dedicate a few hours each month and change a family’s life trajectory for generations is an awesome opportunity.  I am truly thankful for this opportunity to serve,” Clements said.  “I would not be able to volunteer without the love and support from my wife, Kim Chandler, and daughter, Madeline,” he added.
