Habitat for Humanity dedicates new home in Southside

On Sunday, August 11, the family of Tonya Harris received keys to their new Southside home from Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County.

Harris was moved to tears when builder Chris Blackwell handed her keys to the home on Chapel Hill Road, two years after applying for a Habitat home.

“I really never thought I’d have anything like this but with Habitat and C. Blackwell Construction, my prayers have been answered and I have a safe place to raise my daughter.” Harris said.

Seven year old Haley attends Montgomery Central Elementary School told, “One day I’m going to get my bedroom wall painted with unicorns on it. I’m very glad I’m in my new house,” said Haley.

Like all Habitat families, Harris completed more than 250 ’sweat equity,’ work hours and classes on home ownership.

The ceremony included comments from District 4 County Commissioner Rickey Ray, the presentation of a family quilt by Kay Jay of the Clarksville Quilt Posse, a home library from Gail Longton of Daughters of the American Revolution and a native tree presentation by Margaret Pace of the Master Gardeners Association.

Pastor Craig Tate of Ryes Chapel United Methodist Church offered the blessing of the home and Habitat Board President Kevin Underwood presented an inscribed family Bible.

The Harris home was built in partnership with C. Blackwell Construction with the following partner-contractors and volunteers: 1st Choice Drywall, Adams Products, Aguila’s Outdoor Improve, Airborne Electric, All Tech Insulation, American Wholesalers, B&R Siding, Big Hey Enterprises, Blake’s Lawn Care, Brinkley Electrical, Budget Blinds, Clarksville Lighting, Closet Design Specialists, Davenport Exteriors, Double A Construction, Express Roofing, Farrell-Calhoun Paints, Hazlett’s Concrete,  Hollis & Hollis Trucking, Leiva’ Painting, Lewis Bros.
